Question: I have been contacted by an essay mill/contract cheating site. What do I do?

You may, at one time or another, have been contacted on social media, WhatsApp, via email, etc., by a person or organisation claiming that they can help you with your course work or even complete it on your behalf. This is what is known as contract cheating, and the organisations who do this are known as essay mills. Contract cheating is illegal in Ireland, as is the promotion or advertising of such services.

If you are approached by a contract cheating site or essay mill, you can report this to the National Academic Integrity Network (NAIN) at myownwork.qqi.ie . You will not be in any trouble for simply being contacted by an essay mill.

If you have been in contact with a person or organisation offering help with your assignments or exams, and are unsure of what to do or whether this counts as a breach of academic integrity, reach out to the library. We will be more than happy to advise you.

If you are an NCI faculty/staff member who has been contacted by an essay mill, please email NCI library staff Mary Buckley and Tamara Malone.
